Abstract

Introduction: Nowadays anxiety is one of the main problems that exist in the field of dentistry, since despite the scientific and technological advances that have been made, people have high levels of anxiety. This psychological reaction is reflected in the results in the dental office, which causes certain problems for both the dental professional and the patient in terms of oral health.
Objective: To estimate the levels of anxiety caused by dental care in students from the seventh to tenth semesters of the dental career of UNIANDES, Ecuador.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive, prospective, and observational study, carried out on a sample of 76 students of the Dentistry course of the Universidad Regional Autónoma de los Andes "UNIANDES", Ecuador, to whom the Modified Corah Anxiety Survey was applied.
Results: The results obtained indicated that the students surveyed presented 46% of mild or no Anxiety, 40% of moderate Anxiety, 6% of high Anxiety and 8% of severe Anxiety or phobia.
Conclusions: The students of the Dentistry course at the Universidad Regional Autónoma de los Andes "UNIDADES", Ecuador, presented some degree of anxiety when going to the dentist so they always end up avoiding him, making periodic checkups difficult or in turn the continuation of dental treatments.
