Abstract

Introduction: Young people experience particularly sebera consequences as a result of the pandemic and COVID-19 related confinement measures.

Objective: The objective of the study was to correlate the academic semester and the perception of COVID-19 confinement in medical students at the Universidad Regional Autónoma de los Andes (UNIANDES), in Ecuador.

Methods: The study corresponded to the level of relational research (bivariate) and was classified as observational, cross-sectional, analytical and prospective. The study population consisted of 240 medical students, distributed equally in groups of 30 students corresponding to each of the first 8 semesters of the course. Stratified sampling was used. To verify the normality of the data in both variables, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was applied. Hypothesis testing was performed using Spearman's correlation test and Spearman's Rho coefficient was calculated.

Results: The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test showed that the two variables did not follow a normal distributor. Spearman's correlation coefficient was 0.587. The bilateral significance value (p) for this correlation was p < 0.01, which indicated that the correlation was statistically significant at a level of 0.01.

Conclusions: With a probability of error of less than 1 %, there was correlation between Academic Semester and Perception of confinement COVID-19 among the sample of UNIANDES Medical students studied. The null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the researcher's hypothesis (H1), which held that there was a significant correlation between both variables, was accepted.
