Abstract

Background: Childhood malnutrition is a global challenge that significantly affects the health and development of children. In the province of Tungurahua, Ecuador, the situation is worrying due to the interaction of socioeconomic and health factors that contribute to the problem within society.

Objective: To analyze child malnutrition in Tungurahua. The aim was to identify the main causes, characteristics and their impact on the health and development of children, as well as to propose strategies for their prevention and mitigation.

Method: For the study, the AHP methods of Saaty and Vikor were applied to determine the underlying causes and alternatives for the prevention and mitigation of child malnutrition.

Result: The results revealed that child malnutrition in Tungurahua is influenced by economic, social and cultural factors. Strategies were identified based on nutritional education and continuous monitoring and evaluation of nutritional status in childhood.

Conclusions: Child malnutrition in Tungurahua constitutes a challenge that requires comprehensive action. The study provides a basis for the development of projects to improve the nutritional situation of Ecuadorian children and promote a healthy future.
