Abstract

Introduction: Acupuncture surgical analgesia in hernias is a relevant topic of study due to the need to find effective and safe alternatives for postoperative pain management in patients undergoing hernia surgery.
Objective: The aim of the study was to interpret surgical acupuncture analgesia by means of a systematic review using the PRISMA 2020 methodology.
Methods: The study was framed at the exploratory level and required the use of hermeneutics to interpret the systematic review carried out with the PRISMA 2020 methodology. The mixture of terms that achieved superior results was: ((hernias AND acupuncture surgical) OR acupuncture surgical analgesia)), and specifically, 39 results were achieved, after defining the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Results: The review answered the questions related to its concept; the results that evidence its use; the most important milestones in its history; its discovery; and finally, new research within this subject is proposed.
Conclusions: It is concluded that acupuncture surgical analgesia in hernias is important because it can offer a safe and effective alternative to traditional pharmacological analgesia, thus reducing the risk of side effects and complications related to the use of medications. In addition, acupuncture has been shown to have a positive effect on postoperative recovery and on patients' quality of life.
