Abstract

Introduction: The elderly population constitutes an important part of the dental practice, and it is necessary to know the risk factors that condition their systemic response during a dental extraction, as well as the potential complications that can be generated.
Objective: To analize the management of complications in exodontia in older adults.
Method: Under the PRISMA 2020 guidelines 296 articles initially identified in the Lilacs, Pubmed, and Science Direct databases were reviewed, which after purification were reduced to 10.
Results: In the present study 10 scientific articles were included in which the information and relevant aspects on the management of complications in exodontia in older adults are based.  It was evidenced that the patients with the highest risk of hemorrhage are those who consume anticoagulants due to pathologies such as hypertension among others and that an important point is the prevention of these complications that must do a lot with a thorough clinical history and anamnesis of the older adult.
Conclusions: Dental care for an older adult should be carried out with a multidisciplinary approach, in a dental extraction the different comorbidities of age or acquired comorbidities can be evidenced through complications.  Postoperative bleeding is the most frequent complication in hypertensive elderly patients. The consequences of a complication during or after minor oral surgery can decompensate the patient systemically.
