Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know and report the impact that alcohol and drugs have on the oral cavity, based on a field investigation, where the risks and consequences caused by the ingestion of these substances in the oral cavity were exposed. A group of individuals from the "Caminos de fe" rehabilitation center was selected, where an analysis was carried out thanks to a previously applied survey, thus considering the main diseases caused, such as dental caries, gingivitis, enamel erosion, halitosis, among others. The results of this project showed evidence of the problem and the low level of information that exists on the consequences of excessive consumption of drugs and alcohol in the oral cavity.  In conclusion, it is crucial to recognize that drug and alcohol use can have serious consequences on overall health, including oral health, and its effects on the oral cavity go beyond aesthetic appearance, impacting masticatory function, gum health and dental integrity. Prevention, education and seeking early treatment are essential to mitigate the risks and preserve long-term oral health.
