Abstract

Introduction: The integration of arthroscopy into hip arthroplasty represents a significant advancement in minimally invasive surgery. This combined approach holds potential for improved clinical outcomes and fewer complications, but its efficacy and associated risks require thorough evaluation to justify broader adoption.

Objective: To assess the utility, safety, and clinical advantages of incorporating arthroscopic techniques into total hip arthroplasty, focusing specifically on complication reduction and optimization of surgical procedures.

Methods: A structured literature review was conducted through searches of scientific databases, selecting articles published within the last five years. Inclusion criteria consisted of comparative clinical studies and systematic reviews addressing the combination of arthroscopy and hip arthroplasty.

Results: Fifty-three studies met the established criteria. Findings indicate that arthroscopic integration significantly decreases intraoperative blood loss and enhances implant placement precision. Additionally, intraoperative arthroscopic assessment reduced the necessity for immediate postoperative radiographic evaluations. However, minor complications such as lateral femoral cutaneous nerve injury and hemarthrosis were documented, though these were rare and manageable.

Conclusions: Incorporating arthroscopic techniques into hip arthroplasty offers significant clinical benefits, especially regarding surgical accuracy and reduced perioperative complications. Despite minor reported complications, current evidence supports its use as an effective and safe complementary approach in minimally invasive surgery.
