Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on mental health, exacerbating affective disorders and increasing the vulnerability of patients with neurovegetative diseases. The objective of this study was to interpret the relationship between affective disorders and neurovegetative diseases in the context of post-COVID syndrome through a comprehensive review of the scientific literature. A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, focusing on studies published in the last five years, selecting articles that explored the interrelationship between these conditions in post-COVID patients. The results show that insomnia, identified as a central factor in the activation of depressive and suicidal symptoms, emerges as a critical component in the relationship between affective disorders and neurovegetative diseases. Additionally, healthcare professionals and caregivers experienced a significant increase in stress and sleep disorders during the pandemic, exacerbating the burden on their mental health. It was also observed that disruptions in clinical care for individuals with hereditary neuromuscular disorders exacerbated the physical and psychological sequelae of the pandemic in this population. In conclusion, the review highlights the need for a multidisciplinary and integrated approach to address the sequelae of COVID-19, considering both physical and mental health, and underscores the importance of continuing to investigate the complex interactions between psychosocial factors and neurovegetative disorders in future crisis contexts.
