Abstract

Craniofacial malformations, which affect both the function and aesthetics of patients, represent a significant medical and surgical challenge. The aim of this study was to interpret, through a literature review, the use of biomaterials for bone and dental regeneration in craniofacial malformations. Through a review of the literature, the application of biomaterials has been highlighted as a promising strategy to address these issues. The evidence gathered underscores the positive effects of biomaterials in bone and dental regeneration, demonstrating their ability to promote the formation of new tissue, improve masticatory function and facial aesthetics, and enhance the quality of life of patients. The proper selection of biomaterials, considering their properties and interaction with cells, is crucial for the success of regenerative treatments. The customization of three-dimensional scaffolds using advanced technologies, such as 3D printing, has revolutionized the practice of craniofacial regeneration, allowing precise adaptation to the individual anatomy of each patient. This improves the efficacy and integration of biomaterials, enhancing clinical outcomes. In conclusion, this research has provided a comprehensive view of the advances, challenges, and opportunities in the application of biomaterials for bone and dental regeneration in patients with craniofacial malformations. As research and technology continue to advance, it is imperative to maintain an ethical and patient-centered approach in the implementation of regenerative solutions to improve the lives of those affected by these malformations.
