Abstract

Background: The development of instruments that allows concern diagnosis about COVID-19 has been of interest to researchers in the health field. In Mexico, there are few studies related to the concern about COVID-19 in the academic sphere.

Objetive: To validate the Scale of Concern for Contagion of COVID-19 (EPPC-Cov19) and Scale of Worry for Contagion of COVID-19 (PRE-COVID-19) in medical students from Mexico.

Methods: A technological development work was carried out in 203 medical students from a private university. This study included reliability analysis, content and construct validity, through factorial validity of the EPPC-Cov19 and PRE-COVID-19 scales.

Results: EPPC-Cov19 scale demonstrated adequate content validity (Aiken's V >0.71), high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha >0.883), and factor analysis showed a unifactorial structure and a satisfactory six-item model for this factor (RMSEA= 0.080; SRMR= 0.313; TLI= 0.967 and CFI= 0.980). PRE-COVID-19 scale showed similar results for internal consistency and goodness-of-fit of six-item model (Cronbach's alpha >0.841, RMSEA=0.156, SRMR=0.651, TLI=0.848, and CFI=0.909).

Conclusion: The obtained results allow us to conclude that EPPC-Cov19 and PRE-COVID-19 scales validated in the population of medical science students from Mexican universities exhibit excellent metric attributes of reliability and validity for evaluation of concern about COVID-19.
