Nursing strategies to reduce the incidence of pneumonia in children aged 2 to 5 in the San Rafael neighborhood of the City of Esmeraldas

Abstract

The present research was carried out in the Esmeraldas canton in the San Rafael neighborhood, belonging to the province of Esmeraldas. This research aimed to develop nursing strategies to reduce the incidence of pneumonia in children aged 2 to 5 years, using mixed research modality of quantitative and qualitative paradigms, using inductive-deductive, analytical-synthetic and systemic methods; covering the different types of research, action, applied, descriptive, field, correlational and bibliographic are highlighted. To obtain data, the survey was necessary as a technique, allowing to obtain main results to develop nursing strategies. The population where the research was applied were 50 parents, obtaining the following results: 97 % of the population surveyed mentioned that they have foundations in science about pneumonia, which constitutes an understanding of how this pathology works, 59 % know that the main cause of pneumonia is the malnutrition present in the child population, 56 % indicate that their children were diagnosed with a cold during the growth stage and 52 % report that their child has a complete vaccination schedule depending on their child’s age. These results contributed to putting forward a proposal based on educational strategies to prevent pneumonia in children. Therefore, the importance of this research led to the identification of the problem, after the implementation of the proposal, which favored the strengthening of the health of the benefited child population.
