Abstract

Health statistics report cancer as the leading cause of human mortality globally. The objective of this review was to highlight the significance of cancer morbidity and mortality and the importance of prevention through detection measures. The main causes of morbidity and mortality in men and women in Latin America, risk factors, detection methods, and certainty scenarios were described. The health impact of cancer as the leading cause of human mortality since 2020 was emphasized, along with the impact of prevention through detection methods. It was concluded that global health statistics indicate that cancer has been the principal cause of human mortality since 2020, posing a significant challenge for the scientific medical community, health organizations, healthcare institutions, and the global population at large. The prevalence of cancer as the leading cause of death underscores the urgent need for individuals worldwide, both individually and collectively, to prioritize and actively adopt the recommended prevention measures to combat this disease.
