Abstract

Introduction: Prolongation in gestational duration represents an obstetric condition that arouses a notable degree of concern, worry and discomfort in both the pregnant woman and her family circle.

Objective: The objective of the study was to relate post-term pregnancy with maternal age, gestational diabetes and physical activity in Ecuadorian pregnant women during the year 2022.

Methods: The study was framed in the level of relational research and in the observational, cross-sectional, analytical and retrospective typology. The sample consisted of 106 pregnant women and the simple random sampling technique was applied. The Chi-square test of independence was used using SPSS software (version 25).

Results: The analysis showed that 44 % of the women with post-term pregnancy were in the middle adult age group (n=22/35), while in the adolescents this percentage was 24 % (n=12/30). Fifty-eight percent of pregnant women with gestational diabetes had prolonged pregnancy (n=29/55), compared to 42 % of women without this condition (n=21/51). On the other hand, the frequency of post-term pregnancy was 30 % in women with no physical activity during gestation (n=15/26). Statistical tests yielded p-values greater than 0.05 for all these associations.

Conclusions: In the sample analyzed, there was no evidence of a statistically significant association between advanced maternal age, gestational diabetes, or physical activity level with the presence of post-term pregnancy. Studies with larger samples are required to confirm these findings.
