Abstract

Introduction: Shoulder rotator cuff pain is a common injury affecting many people.

Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapy in patients seen in a clinic in Tulcán, Ecuador.

Methods: This study was classified as analytical, prospective, longitudinal and experimental. The study population comprised 109 patients from a clinic located in Tulcán, Ecuador. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was applied to assess the normality of the variable Difference, which, indicating a deviation from normality, we chose to use, as an alternative to the Student's t-test for related samples, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.

Results: 97 negative ranges were observed, indicating that, in most cases, the "After" measurements were lower than the "Before" measurements. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test indicated that the Difference variable did not follow a normal distribution. The Wilcoxon rank test (Z-value=-8.591 and significance of 0.000) confirmed that the difference was statistically significant.

Conclusions: The "After" measurements were significantly different from the "Before" measurements of the therapy, therefore it was concluded that physiotherapy had a beneficial and statistically significant effect on pain reduction in the studied patients, which supported the effectiveness of this intervention in improving the health and well-being of the patients.
