Abstract

Introduction: The term myiasis is a cutaneous infestation by larvae of Dermatobia Hominis, which is the only fly that parasitizes humans; it is native to Central and South America.
Objective: To characterize Dermatobia hominis cutaneous forunculous myiasis through the results obtained in a case study in Ecuador.
Methods: The research had a descriptive epidemiological design and consisted of the development of a clinical case of Forunculous Cutaneous Myiasis due to Dermatobia hominis.
Results: A clinical case was presented of a male patient from the Amazon region of Ecuador with cutaneous symptoms located in the dorsal region consisting of nodular, erythematous lesions with a central orifice and purulent exudate. After the procedure, a yellowish larva, approximately 1 cm long, was removed and a sample was sent to the pathology department. The anatomopathological report described a parasite with morphological characteristics compatible with Dermatobia hominis larvae.
Conclusions: After establishing the clinical and pathological diagnosis of Cutaneous Forunculous Myiasis due to cutaneous parasite, the patient was sent home with antibiotic treatment of the beta-lactam family, for further evaluation.
