Abstract

Introduction: The presence of fissures in teeth is a common problem in the population and has been the subject of study in recent years due to its impact on the oral health of individuals.
Objective: The present study aimed to characterize cracked teeth through the results obtained in a case study of an Ecuadorian patient.
Methods: The research had a descriptive epidemiological design and consisted of the development of a clinical dental case, in which the unit of study was a 48-year-old Ecuadorian patient with a fracture of OD 4.6 originating on the distal surface and ending on the lingual side of the tooth, crossing the distal canal obturated with gutta-percha.
Results: Based on the clinical, radiographic and tomographic diagnosis, exodontia was performed and a titanium implant was suggested. It was evidenced that the evaluation of the pattern or extension of the fracture with the support of CBCT helps the clinician to make a decision on the treatment to be performed, including extraction.
Conclusions: In conclusion, there are many aspects that are still not fully understood about cracked teeth. Further research is needed to improve early identification, diagnosis and treatment of cracked teeth and reduce the incidence of dental fractures. The studies proposed in this study could be an important step toward understanding this problem and improving.
