Abstract

Introduction: Easy access to the skin constitutes a unique opportunity to visualize and study the different patterns of mosaicisms, which can cause various diseases and/or extracutaneous manifestations. Objective: To analyze the characteristics of patients with pigmentary skin mosaicism with a Blaschko line pattern.

Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out in the Provincial Department of Medical Genetics of Camagüey, during the months of January to December 2023. From a universe of 37 patients with a diagnosis of cutaneous pigmentary mosaicism, the 13 with a line pattern were selected. by Blaschko, through intentional non-probabilistic sampling. The variables under study included: age group, sex, clinical diseases, extracutaneous manifestations and type.

Results: The age group from 0-4 years (53.8%) and the female sex (69.2%) predominated. Age behaved homogeneously in both sexes (Mann-Whitney U with p greater than 0.05). Hypomelanosis of Ito prevailed (53.8%) as a specified clinical disease. Extracutaneous manifestations predominated in incontinence pigmenti (58.3%) and Ito hypomelanosis (33.3%). An association was found between clinical diseases and extracutaneous manifestations (contingency coefficient with p less than 0.05). There was a preponderance of seizures as a type of extracutaneous manifestation (71.4%).

Conclusions: The analysis reveals a close link between clinical diseases and extracutaneous manifestations in patients with pigmentary skin mosaicism with a Blaschko line pattern. A multidisciplinary approach is required for its diagnosis and treatment.
