Abstract

Introduction: Kaposi's Sarcoma (SK) is a type of soft tissue cancer that is characterized by the formation of cutaneous and subcutaneous lesions, although it can also affect other organs.

Objective: To analize the oral manifestations of KS in immunosuppressed patients by means of a bibliographic review.

Methods: It was a bibliographic review of articles published in Scielo; Virtual Library in Health; Pubmed; Science Direct; and Google Scholar; published in the period 2018-2022; that they were bibliographic reviews or descriptions of clinical cases; and that were related to the issue of the clinical manifestation of KS in immunosuppressed patients.

Results: It was evidenced that KS is a heterogeneous disease that presents various clinical and epidemiological variants; that it is a malignant tumor of endothelial cells that can occur in different parts of the body, having a close relationship with HIV; that its treatment depends on the type of KS and the extent and location of the bodily lesions; that in recent years significant progress has been made in its study, despite facing various barriers, and there is a need for studies in immunocompromised patients in Ecuador; and that its oral manifestations can vary from flat, macular and papular lesions to more aggressive lesions.

Conclusions: Health professionals should be aware of the precise identification and diagnosis of KS oral lesions to improve patient care and prognosis, and additional studies are required to improve knowledge about its oral manifestations.
