Abstract

Objective: To determine the prevalence of anxiety in the third gestational trimester and its associated factors in 2022, Tacna-Peru.

Methods: A cross-sectional analytical observational study was conducted. A total of 192 pregnant women from three health centers in the city of Tacna in Peru were surveyed during the months of February and July 2022. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was administered to assess current anxiety symptoms (STAI-S) and generalized propensity to be anxious (STAI-T).

Results: 39% of pregnant women had a high level of anxiety and 46% had a high propensity to be anxious. By multivariate analysis, it was observed that the perception of the pandemic had a moderate or high impact on psychological health, and was therefore a significant predictor of state-anxiety. Women with economic hardship and who gave up leisure activities perceived a high psychological impact on the pandemic stage and showed a higher propensity to anxiety.

Conclusions: We found a significantly higher prevalence of anxiety disorders that could be linked to the global health crisis.
