Abstract

The present study analyzes the quality and satisfaction of public health services in Latacunga, Cotopaxi province, Ecuador. To evaluate users' perceptions of service quality, a descriptive quantitative approach within the positivist paradigm was applied, utilizing the SERVQUAL model, which examines five key dimensions: tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. In 2023, the health institution served 53,118 patients; for this study, a representative sample of 157 subjects was selected using G-POWER software, with a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 5%. Expert-validated surveys were administered to compare users' expectations and perceptions in each dimension of the SERVQUAL model, thereby assessing quality gaps. The statistical analysis revealed no significant differences between expectations and perceptions, suggesting that, overall, the health services meet user expectations. However, specific areas for improvement were identified, particularly in the dimensions of Assurance, Tangibles, and Empathy. These areas represent opportunities to strengthen service quality and enhance user satisfaction. In conclusion, the institution maintains an acceptable level of quality, although there are critical aspects that require attention to improve the overall perception of public health services in the Latacunga community.
