Abstract

Periodontal diseases are multifactorial chronic inflammatory pathologies that begin with the initial presence of gingivitis, which can trigger periodontitis that can result in tooth loss, which is why people have to resort to using dental prostheses. The research approach was qualitative, with a cross-sectional design, of descriptive scope. The documentary analysis method was used through the systematic review technique. Other factors were the lack of adequate hygiene, due to lack of knowledge of how to care for the prosthesis, and excessive smoking habits. It is concluded that the impact of dental prostheses on periodontal health with inadequate oral hygiene revealed several causative factors that demonstrated a close correlation with the main factor of inefficient oral hygiene such as: prolonged use of dental prostheses.
