Abstract

Class II malocclusions and increased overbite represent significant challenges in orthodontic practice, particularly in the management of patients requiring less invasive treatments. The objective of the present study was to interpret the management of Class II patients and increased overbite with temporary anchorage, through a literature review. An exhaustive search was conducted in databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and others, covering studies published in the last five years that examine the effectiveness of temporary anchorage devices in correcting these malocclusions. Clinical trials, observational studies, and systematic reviews meeting strict inclusion criteria were included. The results indicate that temporary anchorage devices, in combination with advanced biomechanical techniques, offer an effective solution for correcting Class II malocclusions and increased overbite, reducing the need for orthognathic surgery. However, variability is observed in skeletal and dentoalveolar outcomes, highlighting the importance of a personalized approach and the need for standardized treatment protocols. In conclusion, although advances in temporary anchorage technology have significantly improved the management of these malocclusions, further research is needed to optimize the predictability and consistency of outcomes, ensuring effective and sustainable long-term treatments for patients.
