Abstract

Currently, the study of maxillary relationships is a topic of great novelty, as maxillomandibular positions have been used since the inception of dentistry to evaluate temporomandibular diseases, conduct research in the field of dentistry, and various stages of oral rehabilitation and orthodontic treatment. The objective of the study was to interpret maxillary relationships and their benefits in dentistry using the PRISMA 2020 methodology. This was an integrative review with a qualitative and descriptive approach based on the PRISMA 2020 methodology, with information sources from the online databases PubMed, Science Direct, and LILACS. A total of 196 initial articles were obtained; however, after the screening process, only 14 articles were selected as valid for the research. It was determined that maxillary and intermaxillary relationships facilitate the measurement of the position of different facial areas. It was concluded that maxillary relationships in dentistry refer to the relationship between various anatomical and physiological elements that regulate the position and movement of the jaws, which are of great importance for the proper development of rehabilitation treatments, whether orthodontic or prosthetic.
