Abstract

Various specific factors, including the dentist's expertise and practical application, patient cooperation and clinical conditions, as well as the type of restorative material used, significantly influence the success or failure of direct and indirect restorations in anterior teeth. The aim of the study was to interpret the factors influencing the failure of direct and indirect restorations in anterior teeth, through a bibliographic review using the PRISMA 2020 methodology. The study was retrospective, descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional. Data collection was carried out using the PRISMA 2020 methodology. A search period from 2017 to 2023 was established in recognized databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Elsevier, and Dialnet, using specific keywords and combinations like: "failures and restorations," "longevity in resins," "caries in restorations," and others relevant to identifying significant studies. Ultimately, 24 reports met all the criteria and were included in the systematic review. The bibliographic review found that the main factors affecting the failure of dental restorations in anterior teeth are the skill and knowledge of the operator, the cooperation and clinical conditions of the patient, and the physical properties and handling of the restorative materials. This study concludes that the success of dental restorations in anterior teeth crucially depends on the interaction between the operator's competence, the patient's cooperation, and the quality of the material used; emphasizing that deficiency in any aspect of this triangle significantly increases the risk of failure of the restorative treatment.
