Abstract

Edentulism at an early age produces severe bone resorption of the jaws, which produces instability of removable prostheses and thus the discomfort of patients who suffer from this situation. When presenting atrophic jaws, it becomes a real challenge for the clinician to adapt removable prostheses.

Dental implants arise from the need to have fixed teeth and provide greater comfort to patients and physiologically avoid progressive bone loss; In favorable cases with a good bone remnant, however, in atrophic jaws where there is no alternative to installing a removable prosthesis due to lack of retention, it becomes the last alternative and hope for those patients to have teeth and thus optimal chewing function.

The concept “All on four”, described and developed by Dr. Paolo Maló, 2003, refers to the placement of a prosthesis on 4 implants in the completely edentulous maxilla and arises from the need to replace the entire dental arch with implant-assisted prostheses.

The present clinical case report includes a patient with severe atrophy of the lower jaw, with no possibility of adapting a removable prosthesis, so the all-on-four protocol was used and her clinical case is described in the present study.
