Abstract

Introduction: Currently, chronic diabetes disease is becoming a worldwide epidemic, 2-3 % of people with diabetes develop a foot ulcer and their lifetime risk is 25 %, due to neuropathy and possible coexisting vascular disease, increasing their probability of amputation and mortality. In view of this situation, HIDYT, a gel with anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, debridant, granulating and repitelizing action, among others, specialized in the healing of any type of wound, regardless of its cause, evolution, and state, was studied.

Objective: To determine the efficacy and safety of HIDYT GEL in diabetic patients with lower limb injuries.

Methods: This was a prospective, open trial with active control of efficacy and safety, carried out from January 2014 to February 2021, with a 12-month follow-up of 270 patients at the Instituto Provincial Esmeraldeño de Diabetología, in the Quinindé canton of the province of Esmeraldas, Ecuador.

Results: Patients treated with HIDYT GEL obtained a good response to treatment (96.67 %), in a response time between 1 and 2 weeks. Conclusions: Patients with HIDYT GEL treatment have a reaction of accelerated healing, proving its efficacy and safety.
