Importance of Self-Care in adults to prevent high blood pressure in the La Vivienda Popular neighborhood

Abstract

High blood pressure is one of the most common diseases that affects the quality of life of people, regardless of age, race, culture, ethnicity and nationality, and it is extremely important to know the importance of self-care for the prevention of this disease, as well as such as health complications if it is not treated in time, so the promotion and prevention of this pathology is essential to try to solve this health problem. Its main objective is to determine the factors that influence the self-care of adults with hypertension in the La Vivienda Popular neighborhood in the period from November 2023 to April 2024. A quantitative, descriptive and field study was carried out, the methods are documentary analysis, inductive-deductive, analytical and systemic, a survey of 15 closed questions applied to a population of 50 people was used to collect data. Obtaining results that 57.6 % of the population is made up of women and 42.4 % of men, of which 59.3 % have knowledge about high blood pressure, however 66 % of the surveyed population They consider self-care to be very important to keep blood pressure under control, but only 50.8 % have made changes to their lifestyle to stay healthy. As a conclusion in this investigation, it was found that the people of the Housing el Popular neighborhood, despite considering self-care important, do not put it into practice by the majority of the population.
