Abstract

Both impacted teeth and bruxism are common dental problems in cancer patients in Ecuador. These patients face additional oral health challenges due to the effects of cancer treatment and associated stress factors. The aim of this study was to determine a specific treatment plan for the oncologic bruxomaniac patient with retained canine through a systematic review using the PRISMA 2020 procedure. Twenty original articles obtained from the systematic search of the PudMed and Scopus databases were analyzed, taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria. One case report was included among the findings in the articles studied. The surgical treatment proposal included the use of an apical repositioning flap, which involved excessive curettage, occlusal adjustment and removal of a retained canine. Incisions and sutures were performed to reposition the flap. The use of analgesics for pain control is also mentioned. In case of a keratocyst, enucleation surgery is recommended to remove the lesion completely and avoid recurrences. It was concluded by presenting a specific treatment plan for the oncologic bruxomaniac patient, which included the use of an apical repositioning flap, involving scaling and root planing, occlusal adjustment and removal of a retained canine.
