Abstract

Transmission of healthcare-associated infections, also known as nosocomial infections, refers to the acquisition of an infection by a patient while receiving medical care in a healthcare setting. The role of nursing staff in preventing healthcare-related infections is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of patients. The objective of this study is to identify the role of the nursing team in the prevention of infections related to the health care of cancer patients. It was developed with a descriptive documentary and bibliographic approach. It was concluded that the role of nursing staff in the prevention of infections related to healthcare is crucial, highlighting its impact on improving patient safety and the quality of care in healthcare environments. The importance of nurses in implementing infection control practices, monitoring the spread of pathogens, educating patients about preventive and self-care measures, and promoting a culture of safety in the healthcare environment was highlighted. Through continuing health education, it is possible to change the points of view of professionals involved in care through conferences, training and recommendations for routine practice.
