Abstract

Neonatal jaundice is a result of the breakdown of red blood cells and is processed by the liver to be eliminated from the body. In newborns, the liver is not yet fully developed, so they may have difficulties processing bilirubin, which can lead to hyperbilirubinemia. The objective of the study was to formulate a standardized nursing care plan for a newborn with neonatal jaundice through a case study. A qualitative methodology was employed, including a descriptive literature review using MESH/DESH terms, and direct observation of a clinical case as a technique. The NANDA, NIC, and NOC methodologies were used, along with the assessment of Marjory Gordon's health domains and functional patterns, and her theory. The analysis of the clinical case using the NANDA methodology and Marjory Gordon's functional patterns allows for the determination of nursing diagnoses with the planning of objectives, as well as the establishment of NIC care. It is concluded that the role of nursing staff is not only important but necessary, as a correct NANDA, NIC, and NOC diagnosis will allow for the implementation of the necessary activities to minimize the risk of possible complications in the newborn.
