Introduction: Platelet-rich fibrin is a biomaterial widely used in regenerative stomatology due to its ability to release growth factors and provide a scaffold for tissue repair. The quality of the fibrin clot determined by its biomechanical properties and degradation kinetics is a critical factor for clinical success.
Objective: To characterize fibrin clots obtained using a specific centrifugation protocol.
Method: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study with an *in vitro* experimental component was conducted at the Center for Immunology and Biological Products of the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey. Ten milliliters of whole blood without anticoagulant were obtained from 20 donors. Samples were centrifuged at 2700 rpm for 12 minutes. The percentage of deformation at failure, mass loss at the 1st and 3rd hours, and additional degradation between these time points were evaluated.
Results: The average deformation at failure was 39.9%. Mass loss at the first hour was 77.3%, with an additional loss of 5.8% between the 1st and 3rd hours. Microscopic evaluation revealed a homogeneous and loose fibrin network.
Conclusions: The extraction protocol produces clots with biphasic degradation kinetics, consisting of the release of serous exudate and the maintenance of the scaffold. High inter-individual variability suggests that the properties may be influenced by patient-related factors. These results are comparable to recent findings in the literature.
