Abstract

Perinatal grief is a devastating experience that deeply affects parents and families, requiring comprehensive management by healthcare professionals. This study aimed to identify support strategies employed by healthcare staff in cases of perinatal loss through a systematic review based on PRISMA 2020 criteria. A search was conducted in databases such as PubMed, Scielo, and Scimago using specific keywords, selecting 18 articles after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results highlighted the importance of an integrated approach combining empathetic communication, emotional support, professional training, and cultural sensitivity. Tools like the perinatal grief safety thermometer emphasized the need to assess critical aspects such as privacy and the opportunity to say goodbye to the baby. Additionally, the relevance of continuous training for healthcare personnel was identified to ensure clear information delivery and effective emotional support. Interdisciplinary support and culturally sensitive interventions emerged as essential elements to address the unique needs of families. In conclusion, this study underscores the urgency of implementing specific protocols to guide professionals in providing care for perinatal loss, promoting practices that prioritize the emotional and psychological well-being of affected families. A committed and integrated approach can mitigate the negative impact of these losses and offer truly effective support to those facing this difficult reality.
