Abstract

Introduction: The menopausal transition affects sleep, mood, and quality of life; local data inform screening and counseling in primary care.

Objective: To describe sociodemographic factors and symptom severity using the Greene Climacteric Scale in women from Puebloviejo and Babahoyo.

Methods: Observational, descriptive, cross‑sectional study. Convenience sample of 31 women aged 41-55; October 2023-July 2024; Greene Scale (psychological, somatic, vasomotor, sexual domains) and descriptive analysis.

Results: Mean age 46.5 years (SD ≈ 3.3); 90.3 % with LMP < 12 months; partnered 61.3 %; urban 54.8%; secondary education 64.5%; no paid employment 64.5 %. Vasomotor: hot flashes moderate-severe 67.8% and night sweats 54.8 %. Psychological: overall mild-moderate; severe “irritability (bad mood)” 35.5 %. Somatic: mostly none-mild, with severe peaks for headache 26.0 % and paresthesia 19.0 %. Decreased sexual desire: none-mild 71.0 %.

Conclusions: Although highly prevalent, chorioamnionitis did not determine preterm birth severity after adjustment, likely due to limited statistical power and clinical misclassification. Preventive efforts should prioritize early infectious screening, tight control of hypertensive disorders, and tailored prenatal care for adolescent mothers.
