Abstract

Introduction: Emergencies and disasters generate a significant impact on the physical and mental health of individuals, which requires an active nursing role to reduce stress and anxiety in the affected population.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of nursing interventions aimed at reducing stress and anxiety in emergency and disaster situations.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, including studies that evaluated emotional support strategies, psychoeducational programs, and preparedness actions led by nurses. Studies that did not explicitly measure stress or anxiety as an outcome variable were excluded.

Results: The findings indicate that continuous nursing support and emotional management techniques improve psychological coping for both survivors and healthcare personnel. Prior training for disaster response enhances the efficiency of these interventions and strengthens the resilience of nursing teams.

Conclusions: Nursing-driven emotional support and educational measures play a decisive role in preventing and managing stress and anxiety in critical contexts. This underscores the importance of specific protocols and ongoing training to optimize comprehensive care in emergencies and disasters.
