Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of emergency contraceptive pills among adolescents in the city of Tulcán, with a focus on their level of knowledge and acceptance. Through a survey conducted with 30 adolescents from the Youth Center, patterns of use, frequency, and understanding of the effects of EC were identified. The results show that a high percentage of adolescents began using the emergency pill at an early age, and many have overused it without adequate knowledge of its consequences. All of this highlights a significant dependence on the medication as a family planning method, as well as a lack of comprehensive sexual education. The research concludes that it is necessary to implement educational programs that address the correct use of emergency contraception, promote the use of regular contraceptive methods, and encourage dialogue between parents and children to improve informed decision-making regarding sexual and reproductive health in adolescents.
