Abstract

Gingival recession is a prevalent condition in the adult population, associated with aesthetic repercussions, dentin hypersensitivity, and the formation of cervical lesions. The need for effective techniques to cover the root surface is crucial. The objective of the study was to interpret the most innovative treatments and protocols in the control and management of gingival recessions. A descriptive and retrospective investigation was conducted, reviewing literature from 2018 to the present in databases such as PubMed, Scielo, Lilacs, and Google Scholar, using keywords related to gingival recession and its treatments. Fifteen relevant articles were selected out of a total of 25 identified. The results showed that the technique of connective tissue graft combined with advanced coronal flap (CAF) procedures is widely used and clinically effective for the treatment of gingival recessions. Additionally, innovative techniques such as the modified VISTA have shown promise in improving aesthetics and facilitating recovery. The etiology of gingival recession is multifactorial, highlighting the deficiency in oral hygiene and intrinsic factors such as age and sex. It is concluded that while the connective tissue graft combined with CAF technique is the most conventional and effective, innovations such as the modified VISTA technique offer additional advantages in terms of aesthetics and recovery. An integral and personalized approach is required in the management of gingival recessions, along with continuous patient education to ensure the efficacy and durability of the treatments.
