Abstract

Bite lifts are specialized therapeutic procedures in orthodontics aimed at adjusting the vertical relationship of occlusion in patients with excessive overbite or vertical imbalances. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of bite lifts in the treatment of deep overbite in orthodontics through a systematic review of recent studies using the PRISMA 2020 methodology. An exhaustive search was conducted on PubMed using a flexible algorithm that covered publications from the last 10 years, selecting original studies reporting clinical, radiographic, and in vitro data addressing the relevance of bite lifts in treating deep overbite in orthodontics. The results revealed discrepancies between therapeutic projections and clinical outcomes, showing variations in overbite reduction, molar distalization, pediatric patient response, and the resistance of adhesives for bite opening. The integration of various therapeutic strategies demonstrated that with proper individualized planning, it is possible to optimize results and minimize complications. In conclusion, current evidence supports the use of bite lifts as a tool in orthodontic treatment, improving occlusal stability and functionality, and providing a satisfactory response to the research question posed.
