Abstract

Introduction: Childhood cancer is the leading cause of mortality in pediatric ages, with leukemias being the most frequent types. Recent developments in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia have led to improved survival rates and better quality of life in these patients.

Objective: To examine the latest advances in the therapeutic management of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children and adolescents.

Methods: A descriptive and analytical search of updated scientific literature was conducted in medical databases such as PubMed and Scopus, followed by a qualitative analysis of the gathered data.

Results: Molecular and genetic studies have enabled more accurate risk stratification, guiding targeted therapies that enhance outcomes. Chemotherapy remains the mainstay of treatment, though immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies and Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell therapy have shown promising results. Likewise, tyrosine kinase inhibitors have significantly improved prognosis in patients harboring the Philadelphia chromosome. For high-risk cases, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation stands out as an effective option, backed by recent evidence on its ability to reduce relapse and complications.

Conclusions: Recent advances have reshaped the treatment of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia, emphasizing equitable access to these therapies. Further research is still needed to minimize adverse effects and optimize clinical responses.
