Abstract

Introduction: The highly technical and constantly evolving nature of pharmaceutical regulation requires healthcare professionals to not only maintain, but continually update and expand their competencies. Continuing education ensures that healthcare professionals are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills, which in turn contributes to the optimization of pharmaceutical regulatory processes.

Objective: To identify current trends in continuing education for healthcare professionals.

Methods: Only original research articles addressing continuing education topics in the pharmaceutical context published since 2019 were included. The search was performed in the scientific databases PubMed, Scopus and SciELO. The following terms and combinations were used: 'Continuing education', 'Continuing education', 'Continuing education', 'Continuing education' and 'Drug regulation', 'Pharmaceutical regulation'.

Conclusions: It was identified that the trend in continuing professional education is towards the adoption of continuing professional development models that integrate hybrid methodologies. Although there are significant barriers, such as workload, lack of time and the absence of clear regulatory frameworks, innovative strategies such as micro-credentials and e-learning offer viable solutions.
