Abstract

This study analyzes the prevalence of psychosocial disorders among individuals deprived of liberty at the Rehabilitation Center of Tulcán and proposes an intervention program based on recreational strategies and occupational therapy. A mixed-method approach with a cross-sectional design was used to evaluate 55 inmates, identifying the main psychological symptoms present as well as the risk factors associated with the prison environment. Results indicated that 76% of respondents experience anxiety, 78% report stress, and 60% show depressive symptoms, all exacerbated by adverse conditions such as overcrowding and the lack of meaningful activities. In response to these findings, an intervention was designed that includes recreational activities such as board games, art workshops, theater, and group dynamics, alongside occupational therapy in the form of carpentry, gardening, and cooking. These activities aim to reduce stress levels, improve emotional well-being, and strengthen interpersonal skills among inmates, creating a more positive environment for rehabilitation. The implementation of this program is expected to contribute to a more effective reintegration process by providing inmates with practical tools to manage stress and improve their self-esteem. The intervention also seeks to mitigate the psychological deterioration caused by prolonged confinement, promoting comprehensive rehabilitation and overall well-being among inmates.
