Abstract

Helicobacter pylori infection is one of the most prevalent bacterial infections globally, affecting individuals of all ages, including adolescents. The present research, focused on the development of educational strategies to reduce risk factors associated with H. pylori in adolescents from the Maldonado Educational Unit, used a quantitative methodological approach supported by bibliographic, descriptive and action studies. Data was collected through questionnaires applied to 53 adolescents, revealing an alarming 90.6% of ignorance about H. pylori. The data also indicated that 55.4% of adolescents experience abdominal pain, while 27.6% reported loss of appetite and 25.9% suffered nausea and vomiting in the last six months. The main risk factors identified include high self-medication with NSAIDs (33.3%) and deficiencies in food hygiene, with only 39.6% of adolescents washing their hands before eating. The research also evaluated the diagnostic strategies available, the need for a comprehensive intervention that addresses health education, infection prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits is essential. This comprehensive approach is crucial to improve early detection and appropriate management of H. pylori, thereby promoting health and well-being in this vulnerable adolescent population.
