Abstract

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is a commonly used bariatric surgery to treat obesity and its comorbidities. The objective of the study was to describe the consequences of the use of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. A systematic review of scientific articles published in the last five years was conducted, selecting the 10 most relevant. The results showed that a longer biliopancreatic limb length improves weight loss and the resolution of comorbidities, while bariatric revision surgery is effective in managing complications such as biliary reflux. Additionally, the comparison with sleeve gastrectomy revealed differences in the efficacy of comorbidity remission and weight loss. Pharmacokinetic models indicated the need to adjust medication dosages in post-Roux-en-Y gastric bypass patients. In conclusion, managing post-RYGB patients requires a multidisciplinary and personalized approach to maximize benefits and minimize long-term complications.
