Abstract

Introduction: Prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in men worldwide.

Objective: The study aimed to analyse how chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and staging are related to the survival of prostate cancer patients in a clinic in Ecuador, during the period 2020-2022.

Methods: This was a retrospective, retrospective, observational, analytical, longitudinal, predictive study of 76 prostate cancer patients seen at a clinic in Ecuador. Cox regression analysis was performed, based on the hypothesis that there is a significant association between the variables staging, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy with patient survival.

Results: The Global Chi-square test represented the overall goodness-of-fit test of the Cox regression model and its value was 9.045 and the associated p-value was 0.029. In the regression coefficient estimates in the Cox model to assess survival, there was no statistical significance in staging (p=0.235), nor in radiotherapy (p=0.444), although in chemotherapy, although not statistically significant (p=0.218), it showed an Exp(B) of 0.166, indicating a substantial reduction in the risk of events.

Conclusions: The general hypothesis that there is significant association between the variables staging, radiotherapy and chemotherapy with patient survival is partially fulfilled. While staging and radiotherapy did not show statistical significance, chemotherapy, although not reaching significance, showed a substantial reduction in the risk of events.
