Abstract

Introduction: Trigeminal neuralgia is a painful and debilitating neurological condition that affects patients' quality of life.

Objective: The objective of the study was to demonstrate the efficacy of a treatment protocol for patients with trigeminal neuralgia by comparing it in terms of pain reduction with previous treatment.

Methods: The study was conducted during the year 2022 and was experimental, longitudinal, analytical and prospective. It was framed at the explanatory level of research. The study group consisted of 60 patients from a clinic located in the province of Tungurahua, Ecuador. The Mann-Whitney U statistical test was used using SPSS 27 software.

Results: Pain Intensity before treatment was slightly higher in the Control Group (32.13) than in the Experimental Group (28.87). After treatment, the Control Group had an average range of 37.08, while the Experimental Group showed a significantly lower average range of 23.92. The Z-value, which assessed the difference between the groups, was -0.769 before treatment and -3.317 after treatment. The asymptotic significance (bilateral) was 0.442 before treatment, not significant, and 0.001 after treatment, indicating a statistically significant difference.

Conclusions: The results and statistical analyses supported the study hypothesis (H1). Comparison of Pain Intensity before and after treatment between the Experimental Group and the Control Group showed a statistically significant difference in Pain Intensity after treatment in the Experimental Group.
