Abstract

Introduction: Probiotics are live microorganisms beneficial to health used to modulate the imbalance of the intestinal microbiome produced by dysbiosis in different intestinal and systemic diseases.
Objective: To interpret the outcome of the new approach to the use of probiotics as a therapeutic adjunct in diseases involving alterations of the intestinal microbiome.
Methods: We reviewed in Pubmed, Scimago, Science Direct and Scielo databases the novel criteria to explore the use of probiotics as a therapeutic adjunct in important conditions with repercussions for human health.
Results: It was evidenced that multiple studies carried out in the last decade show changes in intestinal microbiota in referred diseases with repercussion in established treatments, with benefits of modulation of microbiome alterations with repercussion on exacerbation processes, immunotherapy, and classic treatments.
Conclusions: Priority is given to new controlled, randomized long-term research on cohorts of these diseases in view of the possible promising effect of probiotics as adjuvants
