Abstract

Introduction: Psychopathological symptoms, persisting for more than three weeks and up to one year, have now been reported in patients recovered from the acute phase of COVID-19 disease.

Objective: To characterize the manifestations of anxiety and depression among post-COVID-19 convalescent patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.

Methods: An exploratory, cross-sectional and analytical investigation was carried out in convalescent patients and patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. Absolute and relative frequencies of sociodemographic and epidemiological variables, anxiety and depression levels, and corresponding symptoms were found. Statistical techniques were applied to search for association.

Results: Out of the 46 convalescent patients and the 65 with pneumonia, there was minimal amount with depression and regular anxiety. Symptoms such as changes in sleep pattern and attention disorders were manifested. In both groups the variable previous emotional involvement was associated with various affective, behavioral and cognitive symptoms. A positive correlation was found between anxious and depressive manifestations.

Conclusions: A low presence of affective disturbances was found. Persistent cognitive and behavioral symptoms were evidenced.
